2025 UTME: JAMB May Review Results Amid Allegations of Unfairness

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that it is reviewing the recently released Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results due to a significant volume of unusual complaints from candidates and stakeholders. In a statement, the board's spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, explained that the review process would be comprehensive, involving experts from various fields, including computer professionals, educational associations, and research networks.

‎The decision to review the results comes after widespread criticism on social media, with many candidates expressing concerns over their low scores. Over 78% of candidates who sat for the exam scored less than 200 points out of a maximum of 400. Candidates and stakeholders have been using the hashtag #thisisnotmyresult to express their dissatisfaction and call for a review of the results.

‎JAMB has assured candidates that if the review process identifies any glitches or technical issues, appropriate remedial measures will be implemented promptly. The board is particularly concerned about complaints from a few states within the federation and is scrutinizing these complaints in detail to identify and rectify potential technical issues.

‎The annual review process encompasses three key stages: registration, examination, and result release. JAMB has engaged experts to assist in the review, including members from the Computer Professionals Association of Nigeria, chief external examiners, and vice chancellors from various institutions.

‎Meanwhile, Alex Onyia, the CEO of Educare, a software solution for schools, has begun compiling a list of affected candidates in preparation for a lawsuit against JAMB. Onyia is seeking the release of marking sheets and scoring details for the candidates. Over 11,000 candidates have already filled out a form expressing interest in joining the lawsuit.

‎The controversy surrounding the UTME results has sparked a national debate about the examination process and the fairness of the results. While JAMB has defended the results, citing consistency with previous years' trends, many candidates and stakeholders remain unconvinced. The review process is expected to provide clarity on the matter and potentially lead to changes in the examination process.
