Seven Nigerian police officers, including Inspector Bode Emoruwa, are detained and facing mutiny charges after raising concerns about police pensions and welfare.
The Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Benjamin Nebolisa Okolo, revealed this during a meeting with human rights activist Omoyele Sowore at the Force Intelligence Department in Abuja.
The officers, arrested for discussing poor working conditions and unpaid entitlements in a WhatsApp group, include Otamere Ewamade and Fasoyin Ayodeji, who have been held for over two weeks.
The arrests follow Emoruwa’s detention in Akure and transfer to Abuja. Critics argue the charges aim to stifle internal criticism within the Nigeria Police Force amid growing discontent over inadequate post-service security for retirees.
