39,834 Candidates' Results Withheld as JAMB Releases 2025 UTME Scores

‎The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially released the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results. During the release ceremony at JAMB headquarters in Bwari, Abuja, the JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, announced that the results of 39,834 candidates have been withheld due to suspected examination malpractices.

‎According to Prof. Oloyede, approximately 80 individuals are under investigation for exam-related offenses. Anambra State has the highest number of suspects in this probe. The withheld results will be reviewed and investigated further before any decisions are made regarding the candidates' eligibility for admission.

‎The 2025 UTME results are crucial for determining admission into various tertiary institutions across Nigeria. Over 1.9 million candidates sat for the examination, which was scored out of 400 marks. The exam consisted of four core subjects, including the mandatory Use of English and three other subjects relevant to each candidate's proposed course of study.¹

‎The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, attributed the high failure rate in the 2025 UTME to the effectiveness of recent government policies aimed at curbing examination malpractice.
