Alhaji Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, has clarified that the Dangote refinery is not in competition with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC). This statement was made during a meeting with Bayo Ojulari, the new Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC, in Abuja.
According to a statement released by NNPC spokesperson Olufemi Soneye, the meeting aimed to promote mutually beneficial partnerships and foster healthy competition between the two entities. The visit comes amid recent developments that had suggested an unhealthy rivalry between the state-owned energy company and the $20 billion refinery.
Dangote had previously alleged that certain cabals, which he identified as major marketers rather than the new NNPC board, were working against his refinery. However, during the meeting, he emphasized the importance of collaboration with the new NNPC management to ensure energy security for Nigeria.
"We are not here to compete with NNPC Ltd. NNPC is part and parcel of our business, and we are also part of NNPC. This is an era of cooperation between the two organizations," Dangote stated. Both parties agreed to deepen their collaboration to ensure Nigeria's energy security and advance shared prosperity for Nigerians.
During the meeting, Dangote congratulated Ojulari on his appointment and acknowledged the significant responsibility ahead. He expressed confidence in the NNPC team's ability to tackle the challenges, given their talent and dedication.
In response, Ojulari assured Dangote of NNPC's commitment to a mutually beneficial partnership anchored on healthy competition and productive collaboration. He highlighted the exceptional talent within NNPC, describing the workforce as dedicated, highly skilled, and hardworking professionals dedicated to delivering value for Nigeria.
Ojulari emphasized NNPC's readiness to build a legacy of national prosperity through innovation and shared purpose, sustaining collaboration with the Dangote Group where there is commercial advantage for Nigeria. The two executives committed to managing the relationship between their organizations through sustained productive collaboration and healthy competition, envisioning limitless opportunities for both.
