The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) is set to resume crude oil drilling in the boundary of Bauchi and Gombe states in June, according to the company's Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO), Bayo Ojulari. Speaking in an interview on the BBC Hausa Service, Ojulari said the oil drilling project in the Kolmani field, along with the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) gas pipeline project, are critical to the economy and would have a significant impact on the lives of Nigerians.
The AKK gas pipeline project, which spans 614 kilometers, aims to transport natural gas from Ajaokuta to Kano, with intermediate points in Abuja, Kaduna, and Zaria.
The project is expected to boost the economy and provide energy for industrial and domestic use.
The NNPC had announced the discovery of hydrocarbon deposits in the Kolmani River II Well in the Upper Benue Trough in 2019.
The discovery of oil and gas in commercial quantities in the Gongola Basin is expected to attract foreign investment, generate employment, and increase government revenues.
In addition to the oil drilling project, Ojulari also addressed the recent feud between the NNPC and the Dangote refinery. He said the two parties had resolved their differences and were now working together in the interest of Nigerians.
"We have addressed the feud between the NNPC and the Dangote Refinery," Ojulari said. "Very soon, people will start seeing the impact. We are cooperating, and better days are ahead."
The resolution of the feud is expected to improve the supply of petroleum products in the country and reduce the reliance on imported fuel.
Ojulari assured that marketers would be able to buy fuel directly from the Dangote refinery, and any obstacles would be addressed promptly.
The NNPC's efforts to resume oil drilling in Northern Nigeria and its cooperation with the Dangote refinery are seen as significant steps towards improving the country's economy and energy sector.
