A High Court in Lafia, Nasarawa State, has sentenced 32-year-old gospel singer Oluwatimileyin Ajayi to death by hanging for the brutal killing of 24-year-old NYSC member Salome Adaidu.
Justice Simon Aboki delivered the verdict on Thursday, convicting Ajayi of culpable homicide under Section 221 of the Penal Code, which carries a mandatory death penalty.
Court records show Ajayi murdered and dismembered Adaidu, his girlfriend, at his residence in the Papalana area of New Karshi, Karu Local Government Area.
On January 14, 2025, It was reported that Ajayi wasremand at the Nasarawa State Police Command’s Criminal Investigation Department following his arrest.
Authorities apprehended him after discovering a sack containing Adaidu’s severed head during a Sunday church service, as reported by church member Umaru Caleb on Facebook.
A congregant, alarmed by Ajayi’s suspicious behavior, inspected the sack, revealing the freshly severed head with neatly braided hair, sparking a mob attack and police intervention.
During an exclusive Channels TV interview, Ajayi confessed to the crime, claiming it was unplanned and driven by frustration over Adaidu’s alleged infidelity, which he discovered through her phone.
He expressed no remorse, stating, “I don’t have any regrets because life is reciprocal… we were actually compatible.” The murder weapons, including a knife and machetes, were presented as evidence during his arrest at the Nasarawa State Police Command headquarters.
